Mass Transfer Features of Wavy-Bottomed Cascade Photobioreactors

چکیده
It has been suggested that the energy-efficient production of microalgae biomass can be more easily obtained in short light path photobioreactors operated at high concentration. On downside, however, concentrations also require an efficient gas exchange rate to avoid metabolic growth limitation or inhibition. A cascade photobioreactor featuring a thin liquid layer flowing down sloping, wavy-bottomed surface concentration is much higher compared most usual open-type equipment. Liquid flow, upon investigation, proved exhibit peculiar “local recirculation” hydrodynamics, potentially conducive mixing superficial and deep zones photobioreactor. Mass transfer coefficient represents useful parameter optimize performance microalgal its scale-up. The aim present article discuss experimental mass features this novel type highlight expected opportunities issues entailed by different ways installing operating such types photobioreactors.

متن کاملNumerical Investigation of Turbulent Mass Transfer in a 90° Bend
This paper presents a numerical study of local mass transfer coefficients in a 90° bend using the RNG version of k–e model to include the influence of curvature on the turbulent transport. Simulations were performed for flow through a 90°, 3-D bend for Reynolds numbers of 13500, 90000, and 390000, Schmidt numbers of 2.53 and 700 and curvature ratios of 1.5, 2, and 2.5. The differences betwe...
متن کاملComaprison of Mass-Transfer Efficiencies of Scc and Structured Packing
In a previous paper, pressure drop, flooding and mass-transfer characteristics of a novel pilot-scale distillation column called spinning cone column (SCC) were presented. Here, we present the result of comparison of mass-transfer efficiencies of SCC and structured packing. Comparison of SCC and structured packing mass-transfer characteristics show that the gas and liquid-side height of transfe...
